There have been intense speculation, and
we can now authoritatively tell you that 2face Idibia and fiancée Annie
Macaulay have secretly tied the knot.
Just as we reported
exclusively on February 22, the couple stuck to their plan of keeping
the first stage of the most anticipated celebrity wedding of the year as
low key as possible by making it a strictly family affair.
We’re
told the private ceremony was attended by only close family members
including the parents of the bride and groom. ‘2face’s parents had to
fly in just to meet with Annie’s parents and family, he wanted to go
alone but later thought it best to bring his parents along’, a close
friend of the pop act tells us.
An introduction was done on
Tuesday, May 1, 2012, a day after 2face staged his ‘Buckwyld and
Breathless’ concert and released his fifth solo album ‘Away and Beyond’.
Our sources say both families gathered at the Macaulay’s home in Ajah,
on the outskirts of Lagos, for the private meet.
And a day later,
on Wednesday, May 2, 2012, 2face and Annie had a private registry
wedding in Lagos. Insiders say the couple kept the registry wedding so
hush hush that most of Annie’s friends were not even in the know. We’re
told only Maryanne, one of Annie’s close friends was present. Most of
Idibia’s close friends and associates were also not carried along.
Ms Macaulay’s two brothers were also present, according to NET findings.
The
pop singer took the first step towards marriage with the sensational
proposal to Annie, mother of his two-year-old daughter Isabella Idibia
on February 14, 2012 at Jay Jay Okocha’s Number 10 night club.
Meanwhile
2face’s publicist, Bayo Omisore says he is unsure about the new
development. ‘I’m not sure about the news, I’ve been getting calls all
day. If there’s an update, I’ll let you know’, he told NET in a phone
conversation.
A rep from the popstar’s management Now Muzik as at
the time of this report had also not been able to confirm the news even
though their official statement hints he has. ‘I’ve been trying to reach
him too. But I hope the news is true and if it is then I’m happy’, Now
Muzik Tony ‘Don T’ Anifite told NET.
‘He’s not getting younger;
I’m glad he’s joining other Now Muzik acts like Timi Dakolo and J
Martins who recently tied the knot‘, Don T added.
It remains
unclear why the couple is keeping mum about this development, but not to
worry – those close to them say ’they will still have the main wedding
which will be much more grandeur and elaborate later on in the year’.
‘I Love My Life…..It So Golden ***wide smile**’, Annie tweeted two days ago. Who wouldn’t?
